
Dr. Katherine Frels is the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Small Grains Breeder. Dr. Frels graduated from Iowa State University in 2011 with her Bachelors of Science in Agronomy and Plant Breeding. She then received her Doctorate in Agronomy, specializing in plant breeding, from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2015. She went on to become a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota before being selected to head the University o Nebraska-Lincoln’s Small Grains Breeding and Genetics Program. She began her career at UNL on March 1, 2021 and is looking forward to working with her team to create small grain varieties that will keep the Nebraska small grain industry viable and dominant.
